What is a Preventative Health Visit?
A Preventative Health Visit is part of what we call Preventative Medicine which focuses on helping patients avert and avoid disease. Screening for hypertension and treating it before it causes disease is an example of how good preventive medicine helps you stay healthy.
What happens during this appointment?
During your visit, we will update all your immunizations. Depending on your age and sex, cancer screening tests may be ordered. We will also take this opportunity to update your medical record to ensure that all relevant medical history is recorded on your chart. The doctor will make notes on your general appearance and then check your vital signs: temperature, pulse, and blood pressure. Height and weight will be measured and recorded on your chart. Additional testing such as a Snellen Test, a Hearing Test, or a Urine Test may be completed if indicated.
This visit is focused on Preventative Health. Current health concerns should be addressed in a separate appointment.
Who needs a Preventative Health Visit?
All patients who do not have regular visits with a physician would benefit from a Preventative Health Visit. This visit is covered by OHIP once per year.

What to expect at your appointment
When your appointment is booked you will receive a questionnaire either by text or email. Please complete this questionnaire prior to attending your appointment. If you are not able to complete it prior to your appointment, you will be provided with a tablet in the clinic to complete the questionnaire. The staff will perform any basic testing and measurements and record the information on your chart. The physician will perform a basic physical exam and make recommendations for vaccines and tests that should be completed.
After your appointment
We will provide you with online access to all of your medical results and reports, through our secure and confidential Patient Portal, so that you may access them from anywhere, at any time.

Will the doctor review all my current health concerns during my appointment?
If you have current health concerns that you wish to discuss with a physician, please arrange a separate appointment time. This visit is focused on Preventative Health.
I’m due for a Pap, will that be completed at this appointment?
Your pap appointment should be booked separately by calling us or booking through Appletree’s Patient Portal.
The doctor gave me a requisition for a mammogram, who do I book this appointment with?

Are all the recommended vaccines covered by my provincial health insurance?
Not all recommended vaccines are funded. For those that are not covered, an itemized receipt will be provided at the time of purchase that can be submitted to your private health insurance plan for reimbursement. Visit our Patient Resources page to view our vaccine price list for unfunded vaccines.
