Virtual Care - Frequently Asked Questions
Virtual Care Support
Do I have to pay for the Virtual Care appointment?
Virtual Care services are covered under the OHIP program for all Ontarians with valid OHIP health card through a pilot project with Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN).
When creating your profile for your Virtual Care appointment, you will be asked to provide your OHIP card number and version code.
Currently, patients without OHIP coverage must pay for Virtual Care services. Standard service fees are available as you book your appointment and may be eligible for reimbursement by most company benefit plans.
Are the appointments with Doctors or Nurses?
You will be seeing a doctor through Virtual Care. Both family physicians and Specialists are available. These physicians are part of the Appletree network and are fully licenced to practice medicine in Canada.
After the visit, will I have access to the details of my visit?
Your medical assessment and plan as noted by the doctor during your visit will be documented in Appletree’s electronic medical record software. You will be able to access these records via our Patient Portal or at any subsequent visits to an Appletree Medical clinic.
Can I get a prescription?
Yes! Your prescription can be faxed automatically to the pharmacy of your choice.
Can any condition be seen via Virtual Care?
No. There are several cases that are NOT considered appropriate or permissible for Virtual Care Visits. Please see the complete list of non permissible cases on the page above or download our Telemedicine List of Included and Excluded Services available on our Patient Resources page.
Which device may be used to connect to my appointment?
You can connect to your Virtual Care appointment using a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer. Both telephone and video appointments are available.
What happens if there is an issue during the video and the appointment has to be dropped?
The doctor will stop the video and call you on the phone number you have provided in your account.
Can I choose any Doctor to provide care for my condition?
Our doctors work as a team, and not all doctors provide all services available. When you select the reason for your visit, you will see whichever Doctors are providing that specific service.
How do I cancel my appointment?
Go into your account and cancel the appointment. This cannot be done via calling us. You must do it from your account directly.
